Federal OSHA or a State Plan?
Start with your employer type and work location. California, Michigan and North Carolina operate plans covering most private-sector and state and local government workers. New York and Illinois have public-sector-only plans. Use the official plan page for coverage and exclusions.
OSHA records and reporting
Use OSHA's recordkeeping pages and Part 1904 for establishment coverage, forms and record maintenance. Electronic submission and serious-event reporting have their own criteria. Assign an internal owner and check the applicable requirements before relying on a prior year's calendar.
Safety and health programs
OSHA's Recommended Practices explain a voluntary approach to leadership, worker participation, hazard identification, control, training and program review. Use them to improve your operating routine alongside the specific standards that apply.
Environmental requirements
Start with EPA and the relevant state program, then check the facility's actual permits and activities. A new process, material, discharge or waste stream is a reason to review existing requirements and responsibilities.
